Advancement Committee Objectives and Goals

The APHA-SA Advancement Committee will offer its members access to:

  1. A professional mentoring program to help build communication, organizational and political skills essential to leadership
  2. A private public health job search listserv to broadcast job opportunities locally, nationally and internationally
  3. A broad APHA-SA listserv to develop local, national and international networking skills via electronic mail
  4. Afford students opportunities to volunteer for leadership positions on PHSC committees and in Governing Board positions

Short-term goals:

  1. Ensure that all APHA-SA members have access to the PHSO listserv, which announces job, internship, and scholarship information
  2. Sponsor a leadership/networking program at the 1999 APHA meeting open to all students who are members of APHA
  3. Provide articles on leadership development and networking for the PHSC newsletter, News and Views

Long-term goals:

  1. Increase student awareness of the benefits of APHA-SA members, which includes PHSO listserv access, to boost membership
  2. Provide skills for PHSC members to assume leadership roles in APHA post graduation
  3. Develop a yearly award, given at the annual APHA meeting, for a student who has demonstrated significant leadership in APHA-SA in the past year
